PLANNED PARENTHOOD ASSOCIATION

The St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association (SLPPA) is an affiliated member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation (CFPA).  The St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association a private, voluntary, non-profit organization which was formed in 1968, with the objective of promoting, providing and advocating Sexual and Reproductive Health services and rights for all St. Lucian.  St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association continues to be the main source of information on Sexual and Reproductive Health services in St. Lucia.

Executive Director's Bio

Geralda Bray, Executive Director

Geralda Bray has been an integral part of the St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association (SLPPA) for over 15 years, first serving as Program Manager before becoming the Executive Director in 2017. Her leadership came at a time of significant upheaval for the organization, and through her guidance, SLPPA underwent a vital restructuring and rebranding. With a focus on modernizing the organization, she and her team made it more youth-friendly, expanded its service delivery, and strengthened its overall efficiency and long-term viability.

Her management style centers on inclusivity, encouraging a free flow of information and fostering strategic decision-making. She values the contributions of all team members and prioritizes their professional growth and development. By building a collaborative and respectful environment, she has cultivated a culture of trust and commitment within the organization.

Geralda holds a bachelor’s degree in Consumer Science and a master’s in Human Development and Family Studies, showcasing her solid academic foundation in human behavior and societal issues. Most recently, she was awarded a prestigious scholarship from the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) to participate in the International Master Program for Managers (IMPM), a world-renowned program designed to further enhance her leadership skills.

Her tenure at SLPPA has marked an era of resilience, adaptability, and growth, positioning the organization as a crucial resource for reproductive health services in St. Lucia, particularly for young people.

VISION

The Management and Staff of SLPPA are committed to ensuring that the rights of individuals are fully respected and see the association as a place in which all women, men, young people have access to the information and services; a place in which sexuality is recognized both as a natural and precious aspect of life and a fundamental human right in which choices are fully respected and where stigma and discrimination have no place.

MISSION

The mission of St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association is to provide quality Reproductive Health Care service to all persons regardless of age, gender or sexual orientation complimenting the National effort free of fear, discrimination and psychological or institutional abuse by promoting family welfare and reducing the incidence of unwanted pregnancies specifically among adolescent through advocacy and services while assisting in mitigate the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS.

Our strategies

To implement its mission St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association has over the years implemented five major strategies. These are:

Advocacy

to increase public awareness of the importance of family planning and encourage government to make sexual reproductive and population issues an integral part of national developmental programmes.

Information, Education and communication

to enable informed decision making by persons in St. Lucia based on consent and to bring about attitudinal and behaviour change consistent with the health of themselves and their partners.

Training

to increase the capacity of health providers, student nurses and health practitioners to provide quality sexual reproductive health services.

Access

to reduce socio economic, cultural, religious, political and legal barriers to accessing information, education and services

Resource Development

to increase funding base through income generating activities to support the work of SLPPA

The St. Lucia Planned Parenthood Association was formed in 1966 by the deceased Sister Theresa Louisy, who was a registered nurse in the rural community of Bexon.
