Dr. Charles is the current President of the SLPPA’s Board of Directors and I would like to introduce her to our members, stakeholders, and allies alike. We are proud to have such an illustrious and passionate St. Lucian to head our organization and to move our agenda forward. Welcome, Dr. Charles!
Dr Lucilla Urban Charles is a proud St Lucian with a deep love for Obstetrics and Gynecology. She obtained an Associate Degree in General Nursing at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in 1997 and that same year, secured a scholarship to pursue her dream of becoming a medical doctor. Dr Charles attained her medical degree (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Medical Sciences in Santiago de Cuba, Cuba in 2004. She worked in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology(O&G) as a senior house officer for 5 years before going on to pursue post graduate studies in O&G at UWI Mona Campus Jamaica in 2009. She served as chief resident during final year of residency and attained her Doctor of Medicine degree in 2013. Dr Charles works at OKEU hospital as Head of department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and runs a busy private practice.
Dr Charles has accompanied the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in conducting perinatal audits in St. Lucia and across the Caribbean. She is also the proud recipient of the SLMDA’s People’s Choice Award in March of 2020.
